What is CBD? The basics
CBD stands for Cannabidiol. It's a compound extracted from the cannabis plant we call hemp. Cannabis has two main species:
- Hemp — rich in CBD and only small traces of THC (the compound that causes a "high").
- Marijuana — higher in THC and lower in CBD.
Hemp-derived CBD is what you find in legal, over-the-counter products nationwide. It's non-intoxicating and widely used for wellness.
Is CBD legal?
Yes. In 2018, the Farm Bill passed, allowing companies to grow, manufacture, and sell hemp to the public. Nationwide, buying and using hemp-derived CBD is legal. Marijuana laws still vary by state, and marijuana remains illegal at the federal level.
Full Spectrum, Broad Spectrum & Isolate
Not all CBD is the same. Here's how we label products:
- Full Spectrum — from hemp, with no more than 0.3% THC. It also keeps other cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids. Many people prefer this for the "entourage effect."
- Broad Spectrum — 0% THC, but still includes some terpenes and flavonoids like Full Spectrum.
- Isolate — pure CBD only. No THC, no terpenes.
At Nature's Bloom we focus on Full Spectrum because our customers often report better results when the whole plant profile is present.
The entourage effect
When THC and CBD work together in a Full Spectrum product, it's often called the entourage effect. Even though Full Spectrum has a tiny amount of THC, it's below the legal limit and has no psychoactive effect—you won't get high. Many users find Full Spectrum oils more helpful than Broad Spectrum; that's why we mainly carry Full Spectrum.
The endocannabinoid system in you
Everyone has an endocannabinoid system (ECS) in their body. It helps regulate mood, sleep, pain, appetite, and more. Two main receptor types are:
CB1 receptors
Mainly in the central nervous system — they influence appetite, memory, and mood.
CB2 receptors
Mainly in the peripheral nervous system — they influence pain and inflammation.
When you take a Full Spectrum CBD oil, the small amount of THC can bind to CB1 and CB2, while CBD helps support and balance the system. Think of it as helping your body stay in balance.
The potential benefits of CBD
Research and user reports suggest CBD may support:
- Pain relief
- Anxiety and mood
- Sleep
- Seizure disorders (e.g. FDA-approved Epidiolex)
- Skin healing (topicals)
These are potential benefits—everyone is different. Always talk to your doctor before starting CBD, especially if you take other medications.
What's best for you?
We recommend consulting a doctor before using CBD. After that, you can explore products with confidence.
From our experience in the hemp industry:
- For anxiety, sleep, and general wellness, a high-concentration Full Spectrum CBD oil is often most effective. Our 2,500mg oil ($99.99) and 3,000mg Full Spectrum oil ($109.99) are popular choices.
- For localized pain (back, joints, ankles), a CBD topical applied where it hurts can help. Try our 4,000mg Joint & Muscle Salve ($79.99) for moderate to severe muscle and joint discomfort.
How do you take CBD?
With tinctures, we recommend starting with ¼ dropper and holding the oil under your tongue for at least 60 seconds before swallowing. That gives you a clear idea of whether to lower or increase your dose.
Our topicals are for external use only. Do not ingest.
CBD pricing explained
The total amount of CBD in each bottle drives the real price. A 1-ounce bottle for $80 can look like a deal—but if it only has 250–500 mg of CBD, you may need many more drops to feel anything. That's why we tell people to ditch low-dose tinctures and choose one that actually works.
Compare cost per mg:
| Product | Cost per mg CBD |
|---|---|
| Typical competitor 400mg tincture (~$80) | ~20¢ per mg |
| Nature's Bloom 2,500mg CBD oil ($99.99) | ~4¢ per mg |
| Nature's Bloom 3,000mg Full Spectrum ($109.99) | ~3.7¢ per mg |
| Nature's Bloom Eagle Drops 1,500mg CBD + 1,500mg CBG ($109.99) | ~7.3¢ per mg CBD |

FAQs
What is CBD?
CBD (Cannabidiol) is a compound extracted from the hemp plant. Hemp is a species of cannabis that is rich in CBD and contains no more than 0.3% THC. Unlike marijuana, hemp-derived CBD is legal nationwide under the 2018 Farm Bill.
Is CBD legal?
Yes. The 2018 Farm Bill legalized the growth, manufacture, and sale of hemp-derived CBD nationwide. CBD products from hemp (with 0.3% THC or less) can be purchased and used legally across the United States. Marijuana laws vary by state.
What is the difference between Full Spectrum, Broad Spectrum, and Isolate CBD?
Full Spectrum CBD is derived from hemp and contains no more than 0.3% THC plus terpenes and flavonoids (entourage effect). Broad Spectrum has 0% THC but may include other cannabinoids and terpenes. Isolate is pure CBD only—no THC or terpenes.
Will Full Spectrum CBD get me high?
No. Full Spectrum CBD from hemp contains 0.3% THC or less, which has no psychoactive effects. You will not get high from using legal hemp-derived Full Spectrum CBD.
How do I take CBD oil?
For tinctures, start with 1/4 dropper and hold the oil under your tongue for at least 60 seconds before swallowing. This sublingual method helps absorption. Adjust dosage as needed. Topicals are for external use only.
Why does CBD pricing vary?
Price depends on the total CBD per bottle (mg). Higher concentration means more CBD per drop and often better value per mg. Compare cost per mg: e.g. Nature's Bloom 2,500mg at $99.99 is about 4¢ per mg and 3,000mg at $109.99 is about 3.7¢ per mg vs many 400mg bottles at 20¢ per mg.
Final thoughts
Don't let the CBD industry intimidate you. Start with quality, full-spectrum products and a small dose—then adjust as needed.
